About RCCG
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was founded in 1952 by Reverend Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi in Nigeria after receiving a divine revelation. Initially seeking a deeper spiritual connection, Akindayomi joined the Church Missionary Society and later the Cherubim and Seraphim Church. Despite these affiliations, he remained spiritually unfulfilled and eventually felt called by God to establish his ministry. After leaving the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in 1952, he started a house fellowship in Lagos, which rapidly grew due to numerous spiritual conversions and miracles. Although Akindayomi was uneducated, he received a vision where he supernaturally wrote "The Redeemed Christian Church of God," and was assured that the church would spread worldwide.
The RCCG was founded on the covenant that as long as its members obey God’s Word, their needs would be miraculously met. Rev. Akindayomi led the church until his death in 1981, having identified his successor, Dr. Enoch Adejare Adeboye, in the early 1970s. Dr. Adeboye, a university lecturer, joined the church in 1973, became Rev. Akindayomi’s interpreter, and was ordained a pastor in 1975.
